Dr Peter Hamer

Dr Peter Hamer is an experienced general and upper gastrointestinal surgeon who is excited to be able to offer a world-class surgical service on the central coast.  After completing general surgical training in Australia, he went abroad to obtain additional expertise in the stomach and oesophageal surgery.  He completed fellowship years at both the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Scotland and Christchurch Hospital, New Zealand.  He has completed the ANZGOSA (Australia and New Zealand Gastro-oesophageal Surgery Association) fellowship training scheme.  Peter is an active member of the Australian & New Zealand Metabolic and Obesity Surgery Society (ANZMOSS) and lives with his wife and three children on the Central Coast.

Dr Hamer has the expertise and is excited to be offering upper GI surgery including weight loss surgery, stomach and oesophageal cancer surgery, and surgery for reflux and large hiatus hernias. 

He works closely with a team of allied health professionals to help you obtain the best results possible from your surgery.  The weight loss team includes Sarah Williams, a highly experienced accredited practicing dietitian, and Lynita Clark, a registered psychologist with years of experience helping people achieve their weight loss goals.

Dr Hamer is dedicated to staying at the forefront of his field.  He participates in the continuing medical education program of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons; he travels regularly to national and international conferences.  He is involved in the teaching and training of surgeons and medical students at Gosford District Hospital.  He is widely published in both national and international journals and was awarded a Master of Philosophy degree (surgery) from Adelaide University.  See below for a list of Dr Hamer’s awards and publications.
